Like the gold and silver jewelry work it's named after, the filigree on this laser cut box design is all thin curls and open space. Its name traces back to two Latin words, filum for thread and granum for grain, because the original craft joined fine twisted wire with tiny metal beads. Here the curls are cut as overlays that wrap the sides of the box and cover the lid.
With the lip, the box has a clean top edge when it's open. Without it, you'll finish faster. It was made to match our Filigree Bat and Moon design, sold separately, and that bat can stand right inside the box for Halloween. Leave the bat out and it suits any occasion, any time of year. Tuck something small inside and the box is part of the gift. Keep one for your own dresser, too, and bring a few to your next craft fair.

Material and thickness
- We suggest 1/4 inch (6mm) wood so the box is sturdy.
- Choose the slot size that fits your wood. The sizes run from .165 to .250 inch.
- Wood used: cedar for the box and lid, walnut for the filigree overlays.
- Plan on one walnut board and two cedar boards, roughly 18 x 11 inches each.
- Glue as needed. Masking is optional.
